Hellpoint rating6/22/2023 ![]() Okay, so Dark Souls was bad at jumping too, but at least it didn't require as much jumping as this one. The platforming sessions are even worse, though. The biggest issue here is the clunky controls during combat, plus how weird hitboxes can be, with the main character having to many times get very close to manage a hit. Frequent frame-rate dips, especially in visually intensive scenes AI that occasionally goes bonkers, running around in circles and killing immersion a camera that frequently does whatever it wants to do connectivity issues for those who want to play this along with a friend or invade a stranger's game lots of graphical glitches, like disappearing… err, everything and, finally, some of the longest loading waiting times ever recorded on a soulslike.įor the sake of the argument, imagine that there's a patch available that fixes all that. This critic waited and waited, because he wanted to give this a change, but sadly most of the flaws haven't been ironed out. Hellpoint has plenty of issues, technical and otherwise. Oh, yeah, this is tough, although not as much as its more popular brethren, or for the same reasons, to be honest, as the level design itself, as well as the gameplay mechanics, end up being more challenging than the monsters roaming around this derelict space station a derelict space station that orbits a black hole, by the way. 'Axioms' are gathered by killing foes, and these Axioms can be spent to increase a couple of basic stats, but they can also get lost the moment you die. Fast and slow attacks, dodge rolls and blocks, a stamina gauge, and a "bonfire" of its own, which acts as the respawining spot, as well as the quick travel marker. Overall a good effort and a decent soulslike that's criminally underrated.Have you played Dark Souls, or any of its many "clones?" Then you've played Hellpoint. ![]() + A boss phased through the wall, falling to it's death (hilarious). Still some bugs including one that stops you getting one of the endings. Boring forgettable soundtrack (not even metal adjacent). There's not quite enough lore to go around and the endings are a bit weak. I missed out on the 'Good' ending due to a glitch. Fast travel needs to be unlocked for each save point with single use rare items that make the early game a bit annoying. + There are multiple paths to follow from area to area. Most of the bosses come back as normal enemies in later areas. + Bosses are mostly fun (except the 2v1 boss early on). 'Strength' weapons feel inferior to 'dex' weapons. Good luck working out the black hole gates without a walkthrough. The map feels too samey sometimes and it's easy to get lost. There's a fair amount i could say about this game but instead i'll just list a few good and bad points: The early game is hard but once you have the hang of the mechanics and worked out what the game hasn't told you you'll be flying through with little difficulty. ![]() This is a great idea that allows you flexibility beyond farming upgrade materials Weapons are upgraded by levelling up conductors (with experience) that are then equipped to the weapon which then allows you to change weapons any time you want by simply travelling back to the observatory that exists as your main hub. This blend of short range and long range combat is quite fun once you get the hang of bouncing between weapons, however most enemies are trivialised by attacking them from range so you quickly fall into a routine. There's a plethora of interesting weapons that fall under either melee or ranged your ranged weapons and melee special abilities use energy that's replenished by hitting your foes with melee attacks(which also fills your healing charges). Hellpoint is Dark Souls in space with a dash of Doom(2016).
